Defense Act will keep Alabama Air Force wing active


{} {} The National Defense Authorization Act recently passed by Congress includes a provision that will keep a Montgomery airlift wing from being inactivated.{} {} Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions Friday announced the Air Force is allowed to form an alternate force structure plan to save the 908th airlift wing from being inactivated.{} {} The bill also calls for the wing to keep its eighth authorized C-130 aircraft. The 187th Civil Engineering Squadron at Dannelly Field has also been restored from inactivation.{} {} In February, budget cuts moved the Air Force to threaten to take away up to seven of the 908th's C-130 cargo planes.{} {} The Air Force in mid-November told Alabama officials the proposal to relocate rather than retire the cargo planes had been altered.
