Democrats hold majority of county offices,GOP gaining

The Alabama Democratic Party came out of last week's election still holding a majority of the elected offices in county courthouses statewide, but the Republican Party whittled away at the last Democratic stronghold.

State Republican Party Chairman Bill Armistead said the GOP had a net gain of 45 county offices. That included everything from probate judge and circuit judge to county school board seats. State Democratic Party Chairman Mark Kennedy said the GOP didn't make the advances it had been predicting.

Both parties are already making plans for 2014, when county sheriffs will be up for election.
