Deputies responding to house fire discover meth lab

JeffersonCounty Deputies and West Jefferson Fire Department responding to a vacant housefire in the 4000 block of Alexander Road discovered a meth. lab at the house.

Uponarrival, Deputies encountered 43 year old Danny Ray Stevens at the residence.Stevens was extremely nervous and acting erratically. He was walking in and outof and standing on the porch. He told responders that there was no fire andthey should not enter the home.{} Stevenswas found to be in possession of pills containing hydrocodone.{}

In abedroom where the fire was said to have started, deputies and firefighters discovereda table that had several candles on it and had been dowsed with salsa toextinguish a fire. Further inspection of the residence revealed an active methlab.{}

Stevens wascharged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, UnlawfulManufacture of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

He iscurrently in the Jefferson County Jail with bonds totaling $90,000.
