Deroncey family needs your help finding loved one's killer
BIRMINGHAM - AL —
Ashley Deroncey wants to know who killed her husband.
"This has been a horrific loss for me and the whole entire family," she said.
Sunday evening, she says her husband, 28-year-old David Deroncey, was on the phone with her. He had just left work and was at the Shell gas station on Oxmoor Road and Green Springs. He told her he was on his way home. That was around seven o'clock. He never made it.
"I went to go look for him," she said.
She retraced his steps and eventually found his car just off the University Boulevard exit on I-65 North.
"He had blood all over his face and that was just my baby," she said. "I held his head and I told him it was going to be OK and that I loved him and help is on the way."
Her husband of four months was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police say he died of a gunshot wound.
According to police, a verbal confrontation at the Shell gas station might have been a factor. Police believe Deroncey got on the interstate and somewhere between Oxmoor and University Boulevard he was shot.
"I want people to know what they've taken," Deroncey's grandmother, Verna Chapman, said.
His family is asking anyone who might have seen something to speak up.
"If anybody knows anything, please come forward," Chapman said.
"Please come forward," Deroncey said. "Like they said, you can be anonymous. All we really want is closure for our family."
