Disney to Acquire Lucasfilm

Fans of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader have new hope for the next chapter in the saga.{}Disney announced Tuesday it is buying Lucasfilm, which includes the epic Star Wars franchise, for{}a little over 4-billion dollars.{}

Lucasfilm was owned by founder and filmmaker George Lucas.{}Of the deal, Lucas said he had always believed that Star Wars could live beyond him and he wanted to see the deal sealed in his lifetime.{}

Disney announced plans to keep the films coming, starting with Star Wars: Episode 7 with a targeted release in 2015 and the goal of releasing new movies every two or three years after that.{}

Lucasfilm joins ESPEN, Pixar, Marvel and ABC, which all fall under the Disney umbrella.{}
