There is a dispute going on concerning a roadway that doesn't even exist yet. Business developers and environmental groups are in a heated battle over a future central Alabama roadway.
At issue is whether to build the northern beltline - a "loop" that connects to I-459.
The Birmingham Business Alliance and the Job Keeper Alliance say that an environmental group and the Black Warrior Riverkeepers have filed a lawsuit trying to stop the project.
The lawsuit claims that building the beltline would be damaging to the water supply for Birmingham and the surrounding area, while the Business Alliance says these groups are just trying to prevent growth.
The price tag to build the beltline totals just under $4 Billion. If the project gets the permit, construction can begin next year.
