Jefferson Co. Sheriff: May 7 fatal shooting ruled justifiable homicide

Update:This week, Sheriff's detectives presented the facts and evidence of the investigation to the District Attorney's Office. It was determined that the actions of the homeowner were justifiable under the circumstances and no charges will be filed.


The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating an overnight shooting.{} Around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday May 7, deputies responded to a shooting call in the 5300 block of Shady Crest Road, near Adamsville.{} Initial reports were that a victim had shot a suspect and that man was laying in the driveway.{} When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a man lying in the grass near the end of the driveway.The woman who lives in the house nearby reported that she was walking her dog, when a man started coming towards her.{} She reported that she warned the man that she was armed.{} He continued to approach her and she fired the gun.{} The suspect made it to the end of the driveway and collapsed.{} Chief Deputy Randy Christian says the man died on the scene.Sheriff's investigators have not yet identified the man.{} The investigation is ongoing.{} ABC 33/40 will continue to update you on this shooting as the story develops.
