Dozens in Gate City volunteered their time Monday to decorate a Christmas tree at the corner of Joppa and Kimberly Ave, where a gas explosion destroyed an apartment building last week, killing a 40-year-old Birmingham woman and injuring several others.Volunteers hope the tree will serve as a symbol of hope for the housing community left rattled and fearful during a time of year that's supposed be filled with holiday spirit and cheer. Several homeowners tell ABC 33/40 they want to move out of the area following the blast on Dec. 16 because they fear for their safety.{}The NTSB continues to investigate what caused the explosion, but it hasn't released any new information in days, and a final determination could take anywhere from nine to 12 months.
