Man seriously injured after his car loses race to train at crossing in Jefferson County

A man's attempt beat a train at a crossing in Jefferson County ended with a collision Thursday, sending the driver to the hospital with serious injuries, Sgt. Jack Self said.

The car was struck at the train crossing on Happy Top Road at Morris Majestic Road shortly before 5 p.m. The male driver was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he is being treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

In a release, Self noted the crossing doesn't have gates, just a yield sign.

There were no other injuries in the incident.
