Early morning accident in Tuscaloosa leaves mother, child hospitalized
TUSCALOOSA - AL —
Around 12:30 Thursday morning police were called to the scene of an accident on Culver Road near 32nd Street where a woman and child had been hit by a vehicle.
When they arrived they found that the driver of a 1988 Cadillac ran out of gas, with her car stopping on Culver Road. The driver said she had gotten out of the car and was getting her 1 year old child out of the back seat when a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado hit her and the back door of the car while she was holding her child.
The driver of the Silverado said that he saw the Cadillac stopped in the road, but he was not able to stop in time. In an attempt to swerve to miss the car, he hit the rear door and the woman standing next to it. He then stopped and found the woman and child in the ditch beside the road so he called police.
The mother and child were taken to DCH and were listed in serious condition.
Tuscaloosa Police Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident.
