Early morning Pacific Ocean quake measures 6.4

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that at 2:36 Friday morning a 6.4 magnitude earthquake rumbled in the depths of the Pacific Ocean, 163 miles south southwest of Avalon, California.

The U.S. Geological Survey attributes the quake to shallow normal faulting within the oceanic lithosphere of the Pacific plate at a depth of 7 miles.
