Engine made in Alabama has big pull on shuttle

This weekend, space shuttle Endeavour will conclude its 12 mile trip and arrive at its final destination at the California Science Center in Los Angeles, California.

The shuttle weighs 307,000 pounds. It takes a powerful engine to pull it.

That V-8 engine, in fact, was made at Toyota's engine plant in Huntsville.{} Scott Vanderpool helped to build it. "Every time I see one I tell my kids, look daddy built that engine," he said. Now I can show them one pulling a space shuttle. It's amazing.

The shuttle goes on display at the museum October 30.
