An inmate from the Etowah County Detention Center escaped custody on Tuesday, only to be captured 13 minutes later inside a dumpster.

Antonius Dean Blount, 20, of Gadsden, fled the facility by foot at 1:52 p.m. and was apprehended by Detention Deputy Dale Hyatt at 2:05 p.m. after having been restrained by a non-lethal weapon.

"A mistake was made by my staff and the improper handling of an inmate led to today's escape," Sheriff Todd Entrekin said. "Corrective actions and appropriate consequences will be handed down to those individuals."

Blount is being held on a $51,000 cash bond for first degree robbery and second degree unlawful possession of marijuana.{}
