CHILTON COUNTY, Alabama -- A former Chilton County sheriff's deputy and his wife were arrested Wednesday on charges of a school employee having sexual contact with a student under 19 and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, District Attorney Randall V. Houston said in a release. David Hubbard and Rebecca Hubbard were charged following an investigation into a fatal crash on June 19 involving a teen girl, who told authorities that the couple had provided her alcohol the night before the wreck. Investigators later obtained evidence showing an inappropriate relationship between a student and the Hubbards, who at the time were "associated with the Chilton County Board of Education." David Hubbard, who taught at the LeCroy Career Technical Center, was also employed by the sheriff's office. On June 1, he resigned from his law enforcement position to pursue a full-time job at the technical center geared towards training students who are interested in becoming a police officer or firefighter. Rebecca Hubbard worked as a substitute teacher for the county board of education at the time of her alleged relationship with a student. "There are no winners here, but I am proud of the diligence and resolve of the investigating officers," Houston said. "They have worked tirelessly to uncover the truth. Under the current laws of Alabama, these are the most severe charges we can bring."
