Birmingham rescue crews are expanding the search for damage to houses near the UPS flight crash site. Initially, no houses were believed to be impacted. But damage is now being found on Tarrant Huffman Road.
There is rooftop damage to houses on the 200 block of Tarrant Huffman Road. Crews say debris from the UPS flight hit them. No injuries are reported from the traveling debris. But the area being searched for damage is now being expanded.
"They train constantly on how to deal with disasters like this," said Birmingham Mayor William Bell of the Birmingham Police and Fire Departments response.
American Red Cross is also at the scene offering assistance.
Neighbors reported hearing loud booms and explosion sounds around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning when the Louisville flight crashed just short of the landing strip. Two pilots were killed.
Some homeowners say it makes them nervous about living near the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, especially with the expansion underway. One man said it was fortunate no one on the ground was injured.
