Some parents got a jump start on getting their children prepared for school in Fairfield, Saturday.

A family-fun event was at George Yarbrough Park. Families could take part in face painting and lots of music.

It was also a way for parents to register students for Pre-K, kindergarten and the Better Basics Hope Center After School Care.

"We operate as a community," Fairfield City Schools Superintendent, Walter Gonsoulin, said. "So, to have our families come out on a Saturday so that we can interact with different entities and our faculty and staff it takes it outside of the classroom."

Fairfield Schools start August 19 and Pre-K starts September 3.
