Familiar Democratic donkey gone from Alabama ballot

The Democratic donkey that has traditionally marked the spot for voting a straight Democratic ticket will not appear on Alabama's ballots on November 6, while the Republican elephant will remain.{}

A spokeswoman for Alabama's Secretary of State said the Democratic Party staff asked to change the party's logo from the head of a donkey to the words "Alabama Democrats." However, the change was never approved by the State Democratic Executive Committee and it could potentially hurt the Democratic vote.{}

Party Executive Director Bradley Davidson said the new staff was unaware that they needed the approval of the party executive committee. They are contacting Democrats statewide to make inform them of the change on the ballots.
