Family members of the mother and son killed in a crash on Interstate 459 in Hoover Tuesday are still trying to come to terms with their untimely deaths. Shontella Sturdivant, 39, of Midfield, and her 15-year-old son, Derrick Sturdivant, were killed in a single-vehicle accident near Highway 31, leaving relatives grieving and anxiously awaiting the results of the crash investigation. "I'm not even here right now. It shocked me," said David Sturdivant, Shontella Sturdivant's brother. Shontella Sturdivant's 8-year-old twins -- Jai and Jailyn -- survived the wreck but sustained injuries that sent them to the hospital. "Jai, he has facial injuries. Jailyn, she has neck injuries but she's okay. She's recovering. They released them from the hospital yesterday," said Sturdivant. The family has planned funeral services for next week and are asking for the public's help as they try to cover the twins' medical expenses.
