Fat Tuesday marks the end of Carnival, parades and parties bring Mardi Gras to a close

FatTuesday marks the end of Carnival, and parades are rolling in Baldwin andMobile counties to bring the annual Mardi Gras celebration to an end.

Thebiggest events are in Mobile, which has five separate parades on tap startingTuesday morning. Estimates put weekend crowds at more than 100,000 people aday.

Governmentoffices and many businesses are shut down in the port city, and metalbarricades line parade routes on streets.

Theweather should cooperate with the party. Forecasters are predicting a high inthe low 50s, and there's a 50 percent chance of rain.

Festivities are supposed to end by midnight, which marks the beginningof the pre-Easter season of Lent.
