Father charged with manslaughter for fatal wreck on Jefferson Ave.

The Birmingham Police Department reports that a suspect has been charged in connection with last Sunday's fatal accident on Jefferson Avenue that left a mother and child dead.

Accident reconstructionist determined that excessive speed was to blame for the deaths of crash victims Kayla Nicole Jackson, 21, of Birmingham, and her son Zion Milik Jackson, 3. The mother was pronounced deceased at the scene while her son was transported to the hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver of the vehicle, Brandon Levoy Davis, 21, of Birmingham, was the husband and father to the victims, and he was the lone survivor of the wreck.

Davis has been charged with two counts of manslaughter and is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail on two $15,000 bonds.
