      Birmingham man sentenced to nearly 22 years for leading heroin, cocaine trafficking ring

      A federal judge has sentenced the leader a heroin and cocaine trafficking ring to serve nearly 22 years in prison.{}{}{}{}Prosecutors say 41-year-old Billy Williams Jr. was sentenced Thursday for his role in leading one of Birmingham's largest heroin and trafficking rings. Williams pleaded guilty in December to drug and money laundering charges.{}{}{}{}Authorities say the FBI gathered intelligence for more than a year to expose Williams extensive drug trafficking organization.{}{}{}{}Three other people charged in the trafficking scheme were sentenced Thursday while five others had previously been sentenced on various charges.{}{}{}{}Authorities say the prosecution led to the forfeiture of large amounts of cash and three vehicles, and eight money judgments of $5 million against the defendants.
