Film celebrates attorneys in the civil rights movement
Birmingham Mayor William Bell joined leaders of the Birmingham Bar Association, the Magic City Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Foundation to announce a film celebrating the contributions of local attorneys to the civil right movement. It's part of the city's 50 Years Forward Commemoration.
"In 2013, we are honoring the heroes of the movement in many ways. This film is a tribute to the legal heroes who fought valiantly for change," said Mayor Bell.
The documentary film, which is being produced by Emmy award winning producer Mike Letcher in partnership with the University of Alabama Center for Public Television, will be debuted at the Bar Foundation's Journey for Justice Gala to be held Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center. The gala will honor the legal pioneers whose work was integral to the Civil Rights Movement.
The film will be aired on Alabama Public Television and shared with area high schools and colleges in the fall of 2013.
