A fire at this trailer home in McCalla claimed the life of a man late Thursday night. (

{}{} State Fire Marshals are still trying to determine exactly what caused the fire that claimed the life of a McCalla man late Thursday night.

{}{} 41-year old Michael Joe Pierce and his mother were trapped in their mobile home when the flames began.{} Pierce's wife managed to escape.

{}{} "She was just yelling that they're still in the house," said neighbor Joseph Fleming.

{}{}{} Fleming ran to rescue Pierce and his mother.{} He tried to break out one window but the flames were just too in tense, so then..."I took a rock and broke out the other trying to see and then I saw feet.{} So, we began taking out the glass around the frame of the window.{} I got him out."

{}{}{}{} Another neighbor with Fleming started performing CPR on Pierce while Fleming pulled out his mother.{} She survived but Pierce died from his injuries.

{}{}{}{} Firefighters believe the blaze started somewhere around the washer and dryer in the front of the mobile home.{} But, an exact cause of the fire has not been determined.

{}{}{}{} As of Friday evening, Pierce's mother 58-year old Elizabeth Hilton was listed in stable condition at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
