CLANTON, Ala. -- Firefighters are battling a large fire at an apartment complex in Clanton Tuesday evening.

According to Clanton police, one person was injured after a fire broke out around 5 p.m. at Rolling Oaks Apartments in the 700 block of 8th Street North. Chief Brian Stilwell said a man suffered minor injuries when he jumped from the burning second floor of the apartments, which is considered a total loss.

Stilwell said the injured resident was treated at the scene and released.

The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time and an investigation remains ongoing.

The fire took about an hour to get it under control. Clanton Fire Chief David Driver told us, this was not an explosion. Alabama Fire Marshal investigators are on the scene trying to determine how this fire started. We spoke with the building owner - he says this was a kitchen fire. {}Fire crews can't confirm that just yet, but right now, {}the resident of the apartment that caught fire is being questioned. Police Chief Brian Stilwell confirmed one man had to jump out of the burning building. Thankfully, he only had minor injuries. {}He was treated on the scene here and released. {}Fire Chief Driver told us, it's amazing no one was badly hurt."We are really fortunate," Chief Driver said. "This time of day, it's the time people are getting home. A lot of times kids are home waiting on parents to get home from school so we're really fortunate there were no injuries."The surrounding neighborhood did not have to be evacuated, but several nearby streets are still blocked off. Crews will be there for the next hour or so putting out hot spots.
