Stay warm & stay safe

More fires occur this time of year, as temperatures drop and the use of fireplaces rise.According to the{}U.S. Fire Administration, 36% of house fires are caused by heating elements, such as fireplaces or space heaters.

The United States Fire Administration has tips:- Keep your fireplace or wood stove clean, because fires are often caused by buildup in chimneys or stove pipes. - Avoid placing objects in the area around the hearth...that includes Christmas decorations and your wood supply.- Never use flammable liquids to start your fire...and use dry wood, because moist wood accelerates buildup.- Keep your roof clear of leaves - Remove branches hanging above the chimney, flues or vents.- Check your smoke detector battery.
