BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Firefighters are now monitoring hot spots at a west Birmingham automobile repair shop.{}They battled a 2 alarm fire that started around two Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews were able to put the fire out around 6 o'clock.

According to Battalion Chief C.W. Mardis, a welding accident appears to be the cause of the fire at ABM Auto Parts on 15th Street West. Shortly after the blaze began, at least three propane cylinders exploded, destroying 16 vehicles inside the building.

Crews worked feverishly to extinguish the flames in fear that the fire would ignite hundreds of gallons of oil also located inside the business.

Several employees were inside the building when the fire broke out, but everyone got out safely.
