Birmingham house destroyed in overnight fire

Birmingham Fire & Rescue{}is on the scene of a structure fire on 28th Street North and 12th Avenue North. Multiple crews have been called out to help put out the blaze. Sections of the structure have collapsed.

There is no word on how the fire started and no reported injuries at this time.

ABC 33/40 is on the scene and working to get more information.


UPDATE: The two-alarm fire has been put out and crews are monitoring the structure Thursday morning for hot spots that could possibly re-ignite. Also, Public Works employees are expected to knock down the remains of the house. The building is completely destroyed. Neighbors say they heard loud explosions around 11 p.m. Wednesday, just before the fire engulfed the house. There was also a tractor across the street from the home that was on fire. Alabama Power was called out to restore power after transformers in the area were blown as a direct result of the fire.
