First tenant in Birmingham's entertainment district announced

An important milestone for Birmingham's new entertainment district - the Marketplace.{} It has its first tenant and more contracts reportedly are in the works!

The{}"main street" area will feature shops, entertainment venues, and new restaurants. Wednesday, Mayor William Bell and the developers gave us the name of the first restaurant to sign on to the project: It's called "Texas de Brazil" - the first Brazilian{}steakhouse of its kind in central Alabama. It offers specialty meats - along with cocktails and desserts. Not only will it occupy 7200 square feet of dining space, but Texas de Brazil is planning a big rooftop bar along the top of the entertainment district.

The city has not yet announced any other tenants, but the mayor says, this marketplace will add a new dynamic to the city.

"I've been extremely excited from the very beginning," Mayor William Bell, told us.{}"This is something that we've tried to do for over 14-15 years and it's finally coming to fruition, so as mayor, I'm just extremely excited."

Texas de Brazil will open this Spring - along with the rest of the entertainment district. The 294 Westin Hotel is set to open{}in January.
