Forestdale man, 29, arrested for pawning stolen AT&T ladders

Matthew Scott Hall

Jefferson County sheriff's deputies last weekend arrested a Forestdale man after they found several ladders and tools stolen from AT&T at his home.

Matthew Scott Hall was arrested Saturday at his home in the 1000 block of Bivens Chapel Road. He has been charged with first-degree receiving of stolen property and is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $15,000 bond.

Prior to his arrest, AT&T reported 34 ladders, valued at $11,300, stolen from a company-owned property located in the 200 block of 3rd street in Graysville. Also stolen was the chain used to secure the property.

During their investigation, detectives discovered that Hall had pawned several of the stolen ladders at area pawns shops, prompting them to visit his home for questioning. Upon arriving, they found a ladder in the bed of his truck parked in the driveway and seven more ladders propped against the back-corner of his house.

Hall told investigators that his co-worker had given him the ladders and asked him to pawn them.{} Authorities were then granted permission to search his truck and they found several stolen shovels and a large chain that had been cut.

Detectives called an AT&T representative to the location and they identified the ladders and tools as company property.

Following his arrest, investigators determined that Hall has pawned over 100 ladders in the past six months.
