A Forestdale man has been charged with murder in connection with an overnight shooting that left a Birmingham man dead.

James Kevin Mixon, 25, is accused of shooting and killing 20-year-old Andre Tyreece Davis around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the 200 block of Crabapple Lane in Forestdale. Upon arriving, deputies learned that Davis had been shot and was being taken to an unknown hospital in a private vehicle. A short time later, authorities were notified by UAB Hospital that the victim had arrived to its emergency room. Prior to deputies arriving at the hospital, Davis was pronounced deceased.

Investigators say Mixon was seen talking to the victim before pulling out a handgun, firing several shots at Davis then fleeing the scene. In an attempt to located Mixon, detectives reachedout to family members and shortly before 2 p.m., Mixon, accompanied by his attorney, surrendered to deputies. He has since refused to talk to detectives about the shooting.

Davis currently remains in the Jefferson County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
