Former Alabama and Auburn player get pie to the face for hunger
BIRMINGHAM - AL —
Nothing says "Roll Tide" or "War Eagle" like a nice pie to the face.
Alabama Power has been sponsoring a food drive geared at the two rivals, seeing who could raise the most canned foods.
Alabama won the contest with more than 1,000 pounds of food, while Auburn only collected about 800 pounds.
Because Auburn lost, former player Quentin Riggins was supposed to get a pie to the face. But, former Bama player, Wesley Britt, donated more than 200 pounds of food, at the last second, to the Tigers...so both men took a pie to the face.
"If it's for 30 seconds, a minute or even a lifetime of jokes...it's for a great cause," Riggins said.
"If I can take a pie in the face, if Quentin can take a pie in the face...for both of us, we agree that it's worth it if we can help provide one meal, much less over 2,000 pounds of canned goods," Britt said.
The food will be distributed across the Birmingham area to those who need it.
