Quarterback Luke Del Rio has been cleared to play this fall at Oregon State.
The former Alabama walk-on learned of the NCAA's decision to accept his appeal for immediate eligibility on Friday. He transferred to OSU in January.
NCAA transfer rules typically force players to sit out one season at their new school.
"It's really exciting because I didn't really see a good reason why I shouldn't have been [eligible]," Del Rio told reporters after Friday's practice. "I'm glad that they saw it the same way."
Del Rio is a redshirt freshman. He didn't appear in any games last season with Alabama.
Oregon State coach Mike Riley says Del Rio's eligibility adds depth to the quarterback position. The Beavers return last year's starter, Sean Mannion, so Del Rio will be one of three quarterbacks competing to be the back-up.
