Jack "Jocko" Gotta, who coached the Birmingham Americans to the World Football League title in 1974, has passed away.
He was 83 years old.
Gotta coached the Birmingham team for one season. The WFL began in 1974 and folded midway through it's second season.
The Americans beat the Florida Blazers in the World Bowl for the WFL league title.
Gotta spent most of his career in the Canadian Football League. He had a nine year playing career in the CFL and later coached the Ottawa Rough Riders to the Grey Cup title (1973).
Gotta was a three-time CFL coach of the year.
