Former Birmingham Water Works employees sue for lost jobs

Nine former Birmingham Water Works employees have filed a civil lawsuit to get their jobs back. {}The plaintiffs say they received additional money in their paychecks for overtime work that was never performed.{} In return, the group says a supervisor required them to pay him a portion of the extra wages in cash.{}

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiffs received their paychecks on Thursdays and their supervisor would put a white envelope inside the door of a Birmingham Water utility truck which was parked on Birmingham Water Works property. They say the supervisor expected them to put cash inside the envelope before they could leave for the day.{} When the plaintiffs eventually complained, they said the Human Resources Manager told them, "I will back my supervisors."

The employees were terminated in August. [Click here to read the entire lawsuit]
