Former BJCCEO Director's embezzlement sentence


Federal prosecutors say an ex-nonprofit director has been sentenced to two years in prison on Wednesday for stealing nearly $500,000 from the organization.Authorities said 64-year-old Ruth Gayle Cunningham, former director of Jefferson County Committee for Economic Opportunity, was sentenced for conspiring with her 31-year-old daughter, Kelli E. Caulfield to defraud the organization.Prosecutors say the two drafted fake invoices between 2008 and 2010 and stole money to pay mortgages on personal investment properties. Authorities say Caulfield pleaded guilty last year.Prosecutors say Cunningham earned an annual salary of $150,000 as director of the organization, which ran programs like Head Start for low-income and disadvantaged families.Cunningham is expected to report to prison on April 28.
