Former Carbon Hill police chief suing city and mayor over his firing

A{}former Carbon Hill police chief is suing the city and its mayor over his firing. According to court documents, it{}happened after the police chief's wife ran against the mayor last fall.

Court documents say former Carbon Hill Police Chief Heath Allred who openly supported his wife was fired not long after she lost in a runoff. The filing claims the mayor and city violated personnel rules when Allred was given no notice of his dismissal or even a chance to respond.

According to court documents,{}personnel policy requires written notice and a determination hearing during, which the employee can address any acquisitions.

There are seven counts listed including negligence, discrimination, and violation of the Code of Alabama.

Allred is requesting a jury trial.
