Former Homewood coach Doug Goodwin joins Auburn staff

Doug Goodwin is Auburn's new Director of High School Relations.

The former Homewood football coach will replace Al Pogue, who left to become the cornerbacks coach at Troy.

Homewood asked Goodwin to resign{}last month after{}three seasons{}as head coach of the Patriots, after the school decided that he "just wasn't a good fit".

He led Homewood{}to a region title each of the last two{}years and Homewood beat Russell County in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs last season. It was the programs first playoff win in seven years.

Goodwin has spent the last{}27 seasons as a high school head coach in Alabama, with an overall record of 234-91. He coached Demopolis to a state championship in 2004, and also had stops at Marion County, Lineville and Russellville.

He's the third former high school coach that Auburn has added to it's support staff this offseason. Bobby Bentley (Byrnes, S.C.) will serve as an offensive analyst and Travis Williams (Creekside, Ga.) was hired as a defensive analyst.
