Nebraska's Ameer Abdullah has played his way into the conversation for college football's player of the year.
The former Homewood Patriot is on the watch list for the Walter Camp Award, which goes to college football's best player.
Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez is also on the Camp watch list.
Abdullah was a second-team All-Big 10 choice in 2012 after he rushed for 1,137 yards and eight touchdowns. He gained 1,884 all-purpose yards, which is the sixth-best single-season total in Cornhuskers history.
Abdullah rushed for over a thousand yards in each of his last two seasons at Homewood High near Birmingham.
He was named the South region player of the year by the Birmingham News following his senior season in 2011.
