FAIRFIELD, Ala. (AP) - Former Alabama and NBA player Leon Douglas has been named head coach at Miles College. The Division II school announced the hiring on Thursday. Douglas had coached Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Tuskegee for eight years, leading the Tigers to the Division II quarterfinals last season. No SIAC school had ever made it that far. The 59-year-old Douglas was a two-time Southeastern Conference player of the year. He became the first Alabama player selected in the opening round of the NBA draft in 1976 when the Detroit Pistons picked him fourth overall. Douglas led Tuskegee to four regular-season SIAC titles and two league tournament championships over the past eight seasons. This is his third stop in the SIAC. He coached at Stillman from 2004-2006.
