      Former church pastor in Brookside charged with sex abuse, first-degree sodomy

      JEFFERSON COUNTY, Alabama -- A former church pastor in Jefferson County has been charged with sexual abuse and sodomy. Jay Strickland, who was arrested June 5, is charged with two counts of sexual abuse and one count of first-degree sodomy. According to investigators, the charges were filed after a man and woman came forward with information claiming they were abused by Strickland as children. Shortly after his arrest, Strickland was relieved of his duties as the administrative pastor at Sharon Heights Baptist Church in Brookside. A preliminary hearing in Jefferson County District Court has been set for July 17.
