Former Pelham High assistant principal arrested on sex charges

A former assistant principal at Pelham High School has been arrested on sex charges.{}

Deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office say 33-year-old Catherine Michelle Bell, of Alabaster, turned herself in Thursday afternoon and was charged with three counts of "school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19 years".{}

Cindy Warner, public relations and community education supervisor with Shelby County Schools, released the following statement regarding Bell's arrest:

"The Shelby County School District always takes these types of allegations seriously.{} The school district took immediate action when we first made aware of the allegations.{} The employee was placed on administrative leave while the matter was being investigated by the school district, with the assistance of local law enforcement.{} She subsequently resigned from her position on November 21."

Thursday evening, Bell was released from Shelby County Jail on a $90,000 bond.
