Trussville's Camp Coleman among four Girl Scouts camps closing

Four of six Girl Scouts camps across Alabama are closing due to a decrease in attendance and increase in operational costs, according to Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama.{}

Camp Anderele in Rogersville and Camp Tombigbee in Greene County will close after Summer 2012. Camp Coleman in Trussville and Camp Trico in Guntersville will close June 1st, 2013.{}

The two remaining camps, Camp{}Cottaquilla in Anniston and{}Kanawahala Program Center in Chelsea, will remain open as part of a feasibility study to determine what's best for girls they serve.{}

Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama plans to sell the properties.{}

"The heart of our decision is what girls want," said Hilary Perry,{}Director of Communications and Advocacy for Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama. "They're showing us that they're interested in stem programs and travel opportunities."

Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama serves more than 13,000 girls in a 36-county area.{}
