Washington D. C. has planned a Congressional Gold Medal ceremony in honor of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing.
The event will be Sept. 10 in the National Statuary Hall at the Capitol, where congressional leaders will bestow the Congressional Gold Medal on the four girls killed in the Sept. 15, 1963 bombing.
Congress voted earlier this year to bestow the medal on Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson and Cynthia Wesley. All were 14 years old, except McNair, who was 11-years-old.
Family members of the girls were present in Washington when President Barack Obama signed the legislation providing the gold medal and reports say they plan to be back for the ceremony next month.
