Free tax help April 13

Withthe April 15 tax deadline not far away, the Internal Revenue Service todayreminded tax filers in the Birmingham area that many local free tax help siteswon't be open much longer Two sites will offer free tax preparation ande-filing Saturday, April 13.

Aspecial one-day tax help site will be open Sat., April 13 from 10 a.m. to 2p.m. at ALAGASCO Midtown, Twenty 20th St., South, in Birmingham. Walk-in helpwill be offered with no appointment required. The site is sponsored by theAlabama Asset Building Coalition and its partners.

Freetax help will also be offered Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the SmithfieldLibrary, #1 8th Ave., West, in Birmingham. Appointments can be made by callingImpact Alabama at 1-888-99-TAX-AL.

Thefree tax help is provided by IRS-certified volunteers and is open to filerswhose household income was below $51,000 in 2012 or who file a simple taxreturn.

Tohave your tax return prepared at one of these sites, bring the following informationwith you:

Proofof identification - Picture ID

SocialSecurity Cards for you, your spouse and dependents or a Social Security Numberverification letter issued by the Social Security Administration or IndividualTaxpayer{} Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter for you, your spouseand dependents

Birthdates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return

Wageand earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-Misc from all employers

Interestand dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)

Acopy of last year's federal and state returns, if available

Proofof bank account routing numbers and account numbers for Direct Deposit, such asa blank check

Totalpaid for daycare provider and the daycare provider's tax identifying number(the provider's Social Security Number or the provider's business EmployerIdentification Number) if appropriate

Tofile taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spousesmust be present to sign the required forms.
