Friday Night Blitz: Week 1 lineup of high school football coverage

Hoover head coach Josh Niblett. (

The 18th season of ABC 33/40's Friday Night Blitz will kick off Friday night as the regular season openers for high school football teams around the state get underway.

Host Mike Raita and high school sports writer Jeff Sentell will be live from the Hoover Met, where Blitz Gameday will preview the much-anticipated matchup between the Hoover Bucs and Colquitt County (Ga.), led by former Hoover coach Rush Propst.

Link:{} Sentell's in-depth profile of Rush Propst and his return to Hoover

Propst, who went 115-12 in nine seasons at Hoover before he was forced to resign amid scandal in 2007, is in his sixth season as head coach of the Packers. Colquitt County is ranked No. 2 in Class 5A of the Georgia High School Association and the team is coming off a 10-4 season in 2012, which included a state semi-final appearance.

Hoover enters the season right where it left off in 2012 -- the top-ranked team in the AHSAA Class 6A rankings. The Bucs took down Opelika to win its second state title under head coach Josh Niblett, who took over for Propst in 2008 and has guided Hoover to five straight state title appearances.
