Birmingham police arrest two Florida fugitives wanted for burglaries, car break-ins

The Birmingham Police Department arrested two fugitives wanted for a string of{}Florida break-ins in Birmingham this week.

Daniel Hagemeister, 32, of Wisconsin, and Jason Claybaugh, 43, of Pennsylvania were arrested and charged{}Monday.

The Birmingham investigation began when detectives from Orlando notified BPD detectives that the{}pair may have traveled to the Magic City. They were wanted for several burglary and vehicle break-ins in Orlando.

Monday, detectives began searching for the suspects, who had{}made several pawn shop transactions in the Birmingham area. During the transactions, police said Hagemeister and Claybaugh{}listed an area hotel address. Investigators eventually found the fugitives at the USA Economy Lodge on Crestwood Boulevard.

During the arrests, officers found several items recently reported stolen during burglaries and vehicle break-ins in the Birmingham area.

Police believe the{}fugitives{}have been in the Birmingham area approximately one week. It's not clear why they traveled to Alabama. They are in the process of being extradited to Orlando, and the investigation is ongoing.
