Gadsden man dies after being dragged by truck across Meighan Bridge, driver charged with DUI

Keeley Jane Maddox, 28, of Kentucky, was charged with DUI in connection with the dragging death of a Gadsden man, 45, Wednesday, March 26, 2014.

GADSDEN, Ala. -- A Gadsden man was killed Wednesday night after being dragged by a pickup truck across Meighan Bridge, police told ABC 33/40 reporter Robert Richardson.

Matthew Paul Goddard, 45, died from injuries sustained in the incident that occurred around 10:38 p.m. on Meighan Boulevard. According to police, Goddard was dragged by a pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Keeley Jane Maddox, of Kentucky, from the west side of the bridge over the Coosa River to the east side and into a Waffle House parking lot.

The victim was taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center and later airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Maddox was suspected of driving under the influence and booked into the Etowah County Jail. She is being held without bond and faces additional charges pending the results of an ongoing investigation.
