The Gadsden Police Department is getting an extra set of high-tech eyes. Every officer will be equipped with a lapel camera that records audio and video.
The tool goes hand in hand with a dozen cars that are now outfitted with cameras as well.
At least one patrolman firmly believes it is a good tool to provide a record of evidence, protecting the public and the officer.
Officers turn the cameras on when answering a call or when interacting with the public.
A federal grant paid half the cost of the cameras, with the rest of the money coming from undesignated funds.
