ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. -- A Gadsden woman has been arrested after admitting to using drugs one day before giving birth to her child, who later died from an intestinal disease, the Etowah County Sheriff's Office said.
Adrian LeShay Stevens, 39, was arrested on Jan. 16 and charged with one felony count of chemical endangerment of exposing a child to an environmentin which controlled substances are ingested, produced or distributed.
Stevens gave birth to her baby one day after using drugs, which authorities didn't identify in a release. Her child died seven days later at a Birmingham hospital.
