Gardendale man arrested for child abuse on Christmas Eve

Brandon Roberts, 22, of Gardendale, was arrested on Christmas Eve for child abuse.

A Gardendale man was arrested on Monday for the abuse of a child in a Wal-Mart parking lot, the Bessemer Police Department reports.

Police received multiple calls about the incident at the Wal-Mart located at 750 Academy Drive and upon their arrival, they found the suspect with three children. A bruise was visible on the youngest child's forehead and police questioned the suspect and the children's mother before reviewing the store's surveillance video showing the incident.

The video revealed the youngest child being struck several times after falling down twice in the parking lot as they left the store. The suspect could be seen hitting the child's back and head in the footage.
